About Evolución Animal

Evolución Animal A.C. is a registered non-profit organization that started in animal activism in the late 1990s and officially opened in its doors in 2005. We provide care to over 450 dogs and 250 cats in the south of Mérida, close to Umán. Evolución is not only a shelter, but a sanctuary for abused and mistreated dogs and cats. It is a home for the “malix pek” (mixed breed / street dogs) who are less likely to be adopted simply because they are not a designer breed. In Evolución these dogs have a home. Since the very beginning Evolución has been based around four key things to address the root causes of dog and cat overpopulation and animal abuse. Those four key areas are: Education, Adoption, Sterilization and the Implementation / Enforcement of laws.

Together with the help of donors like you, Evolución’s goal is to continue to promote the wellbeing of our habitat and its animals; to protect and speak out against cruelty and violence, and to cultivate respect and appreciation for every living creature. Our goal is to rehabilitate the animals we rescue and find them responsible loving homes. We do not receive any government funding and rely on the generous donations from people like you, as well as many fundraising activities such as raffles, bazaars and product sales. We couldn’t do what we do without the amazing community that supports us along the way – so thank you!
